February hopes and reading more

I'm beginning to get tired of this winter, not that i could ever get tired of snow, more that Richmond does such a pathetic job with snow and ice management, that it makes walking down the street to your car a hazardous adventure. A couple nights ago, I slipped and fell pretty bad. I've been trying to spend as little time as I can since then staring at screens, just in case I'm concussed. I am okay though. I got right up afterwards, continued to drive to the Aldi, get some groceries, and drive home to make dinner. Each day is progressively better, and it has honestly been really nice to spend more time with my nose in books rather than eyes glued to a screen.

Today is February 1st, and the cold snap that came with this polar vortex is passing. I am looking forward to the ice finally melting, and the streets being passable again. This bout of cold has not been without its indoor pleasure though! I braved the streets yesterday to go meet some friends for lunch, and had a marvelous beef stew. It was honestly exactly what I needed. I went home afterwards, tidied up a little, did some reading, and drove over to pick Tristan up to go hang at Dylan's place in Oregon Hill. We played a round of rummy, and then a new game, machi koro. machi koro reminded me of a smaller, quicker version of Catan, and we had a was a very enjoyable game that lasted a lot longer that it ought to have.

I'm happy to spend today loafing around, doing absolutely nothing but laundry, baking cookies, and reading Drums of Autumn. I did some light rearranging (because I apparently can't resist) and moved my desk (the smaller one), back into my bedroom. Its a lot cozier than the other room, and for doing my blogging, going through my negative archives, and making music, I kind of prefer to be in here.

February will hopefully bring quite a bit of good news. My friend Mike should hear about his acceptance to a master's program in Richmond, and hopefully will have a timeline for moving here. I have already offered him the other room. I also am one month closer to moving into a full time role at the museum, which I won't truly believe until it happens, but it will be a dream come true. I may not be doing the most luxurious work right now, but I really enjoy the people I work around, from my small team of three, to the art handlers right next store, the folks in imaging resources and graphics, and exhibition design, I am around a really wonderful group every day, and I think that is reason enough to show up and work hard at whatever I am doing right now. We're all working towards the same thing.
